About Howard Ray

For 37th Ward Alderman

Lifelong Westside Resident

The fight for fairness in the 37th Ward

He was born on the westside of Chicago and attended Oak Park River Forest High School, Iowa State and Roosevelt Universities. He has worked in the civil service industry for 32 years including the Chicago Transit Authority, U.S Postal Service and is currently employed with the
City of Chicago.

Howard Ray is very familiar with the people and the culture on the westside as
working and living on the westside has afforded him the opportunity to speak with and sit in homes of many residents in the 37th Ward. With this, he has listened and knows what is necessary to improve quality of life in the 37th Ward.

As Alderman, Howard Ray Will:

▪ Implement a Community Benefit Agreement (CBA) with big and small businesses and residents within the 37th Ward
▪ Create an equation with input from citizens and business to help give property owners a property tax relief to preserve their homes
▪ Implement a proactive crime strategy called “The Formula” that has numerous
components to prevent crime.
▪ Seek education strategies to ensure our youth’s education and safety and bring back vocational training programs to prepare them for a brighter future.
▪ Create a Sports ministry to assist in offsetting the cost of youth team expenses,
(traveling, uniforms, registration expenses, etc.)
▪ Utilize all city agencies and departments to provide safety and wellness for the
37th Ward
▪ Along with 37th Ward citizens, seek strategies for our homeless, and address low wages and poverty that affect our community.

Howard Ray has always given back to the community

▪ Volunteered with the Park District Boxing Team at Garfield Park, training, and mentoring boxers.
▪ Held Black history lessons with youth on Saturday mornings to create a strong sense of pride about Black Heritage.
▪ Hosted the Howard Ray Christmas Toy and fall Back-Pack Giveaway annually to children in the community
▪ Provided art equipment and supplies to three westside Chicago Park Districts
▪ Founded the West Humboldt Park Community Coalition (WHPCC).
